Our Why

I believe that proper swimming is the most Essential Skill for anyone who wants to be water safe in Hawaii. - Coach Jenny

Thanks for checking in to learn more about Kona Swim Lessons.

My name is Coach Jenny.  I started Kona Swim Lessons as I recognized that there is a need in the community for a swim lessons program for children and adults alike. I love teaching and giving back to this community that embraced me. Swimming is one of the best ways to find joy. Let me start at the beginning!

I started the swim lessons program July 1, 2018 with Coach Steve Borowski of Kona Aquatics.  I wanted to return to my roots. You see, I grew up in a family that loves the water and the sport of swimming. Most days you would find my sister, brother, and myself at swim practice. We love the water and that’s because we grew up in some of the sunniest states including California, Arizona, and Hawaii. I think I may have learned how to swim before I learned how to walk! Well almost…

In Arizona summers are pretty much unbearable because of the heat and so I, like most children in Arizona, linked play time to pool time! I was comfortable with my face in the water as an infant and swimming all by myself by 3 years of age. I have always loved water!

I swam competitively off and on throughout my childhood and young adulthood. I swam for the Mission Viejo Nadadores, South Coast Aquatics, and Dolphin Aquatics Swim Teams. I coached and taught swim lessons when I was in High School and throughout college at Point Loma Nazarene University. My junior and senior year of college I was the Head Coach for the Peninsula YMCA Swim Team and managed their swim lessons program.

After graduation from Point Loma Nazarene University with my Bachelor’s in Business Administration. I worked in sales and marketing positions for Nordstroms and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  I ultimately moved to Kailua-Kona for a new job as the Director of Business Development at Mokulele Airlines. The opportunity and experience was wonderful, however as transitions happen. I found myself looking for a new opportunity.

I recognized that so many friends weren’t comfortable around water.  It soon became my intention to make sure that every child is safe and comfortable around water.  Kona is very much like the small towns of Dana Point and San Clemente where I grew up. I fell in love with Kona and had no intention of leaving. It became my dream to create a swim school for little keiki. I met Steve Borowski of Kona Aquatics at his Master’s Swim Team practice when I first moved to Kona in 2012. He started the Kona Aquatics Age Group and Masters Swim Team a little more than 25 years ago and I knew immediately he would be an amazing mentor for me in this new business.  Coach Steve Borowski agreed that the most important skill a child or adult can have living in Kona is to not only know how to swim but how to swim well.

I teach infants to adults.  Water safety and stroke technique are my subjects of passion.  I will custom build a program to help you achieve your goals regardless of what those might be.  If you know someone who needs to learn to swim for water safety, or wants to improve their stroke technique in order to feel comfortable enough to join the age group swim team or the adults Master’s Swim Program please reach out I will connect you.

Thanks again for being here. I’d love to be the one to help introduce you to the sport of swimming!

Mahalo,
